A brief history

And it came to pass one lovely spring morning, as we were working away in our garden, we came upon the idea of establishing a library in Armidale.

Why another library?

We are thankful to have both a local library and a university library here in Armidale, but these tend not to have very much to offer in the way of theology or Christian living books.

We began to wish that there was a local library that served the Christian community.

And so we thought we'd build one.

Wasting no time, we began reviewing our own personal library, which formed the core of the collection. We also starting looking around for good deals on new and second-hand books.

Mrs Wilson spent who-knows-how-much-time cataloguing and covering hundreds of books.

The big challenge was figuring out how to build an easy-to-use and pleasant interface for browsing and borrowing books.

We're very pleased with what we've managed to put together: browsing our Library is as easy as using an online bookshop.

After months of scheming, buying books, cataloguing and coding, we opened up to the public in March 2025 with about 800 books in the collection.

The future?

Our dream is that in years to come, Wilson House would grow into a valuable treasure trove of resources for the Christian community here in Armidale and further afield. Books are food for culture, and we hope that the Christian culture nourished and revitalised through our work.
